You can restore your smile so quickly it's almost unbelievable, but believe it you can! At Phil W. Hart DDS Family dental crownsDentistry, your broken, decayed or heavily restored tooth can receive a beautiful porcelain crown in just two hours. How is that possible? Well, Dr. Hart and his team offer CEREC same day crown technology in Bartlett to eliminate the need for a dental lab and create a lifelike restoration right in the treatment room. You smile will look good and feel just great the very same day.

CEREC technology

CEREC means Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics. That's quite a mouthful, but what it really means is that your porcelain crown will be designed and created the same day in Barlett while you wait and even watch! Dr. Hart is fully trained in computer-aided design software and the use of computer-aided imaging. Also called CAD/CAM, this state of the art technology uses three-dimensional digital imaging and software to take oral impressions, sketch out a perfectly fitting porcelain crown and then mill it from a solid block of porcelain.

In the past, dentists had to use gooey impression putty and cumbersome impression trays to create a model of the patient's mouth. Then, a care plan and the impressions went to a dental lab where a technician created a gold, porcelain or porcelain fused to metal crown. The process took days to weeks, and patients wore awkward temporary fillings or crowns to protect their teeth as they waited.

With CEREC technology, impressions trays and putty, long waiting times and temporaries are all but eliminated. While some procedures require use of a dental lab, a great majority of dental crowns do not, saving the patient time, discomfort and long waits.

Caring for CEREC crowns

Once Dr. Hart creates and places your new same day crown in his Bartlett office, you'll brush it twice a day and floss around it once a day to keep it clean--just as you do your other teeth. If you grind your teeth, he may recommend a custom-made mouth guard to cushion chewing surfaces and avoid unnecessary wear and tear. Of course, you'll come to Phil W. Hart DDS Family Dentistry twice a year, as advised by the American Dental Association, for oral exams and cleanings--great insurance against tooth decay, gum disease and other oral health problems.
